Foot and Mouth Disease update
13 November 2007
Once random site visits within a 150km range of Pirbright, Surrey - as required by the EU - have been successfully completed, the UK should be declared a Foot and Mouth Disease-free zone.
It should now be possible to move animals in all areas so that supplementary feeding on sensitive sites is no longer be required. If any agri-environment agreement holders still have concerns about how the outbreak may have affected their ability to meet any agreement conditions, they should contact their local Natural England Advisor.
Only a few rights of way remain closed that cross infected premises and areas where disease might be harboured. It is possible that these restrictions could remain in place until spring 2008.
