Land Management in the South West
This page gives information about the approach to the governance, strategy and delivery of land management, and in particular agri-environment, schemes in the South West region. It incorporates guidance on Environmental Stewardship delivery. This information is for potential applicants for Higher Level Stewardship (HLS), current agreement holders, and farming and environmental partners and stakeholders.
Priorities for 2008-2009
- Agreements which will help put in place the management required to achieve target condition on SSSIs
- Agreements which will make a major contribution to help achieve Biodiversity Action Plan targets for habitats and species where HLS management options are required
- High quality applications leading to multi-objective agreements, especially in Target Areas for priority features emphasised within Target Area Statements
- High quality applications for priority features outside Target Areas, emphasised within SW Theme Statements
South West Higher Level Stewardship Targeting
Natural England has moved to a spatial approach to delivering Higher Level Stewardship and has mapped the country to establish which land holdings will provide the most environmental benefit with the funds available. The maps are operational from November 2008.
The map of SW Target Areas, the SW Target Area Statements and the SW Theme Statement can be found on the national HLS Targeting pages.
South West Land Management Stakeholder Group
This group is chaired by the Natural England Regional Director and includes external stakeholders and partners, statutory agencies and environmental and farming organisations.
